Moving in Leeds? Why there’s no need to worry…
With the population of Leeds standing at over 750,000 (at the last count – pretty sure it’s grown as most of those seemed to be in the Trinity shopping centre last Saturday), it’s a safe bet to say someone is always moving.
According to Zoopla 7,832 houses were sold in Leeds in the last 12 months – but of course, that doesn’t include people moving in to rented homes or other forms of accommodation.
If we break that down into popular areas in Leeds, there was 498 house sales in Morley, 106 in Roundhay, 619 in Pudsey, 137 in Alwoodley, 55 in Shadwell, 137 in Meanwood, 149 in Headingley, 174 in Garforth, 274 in Otley, 203 in Chapel Allerton, 159 in Moortown, 57 in Bramhope and 359 in Horsforth. Amazing what you can find on the internet nowadays!
As you probably assume, moving goes in peaks and troughs – people still like to put their home on the market in Spring, which often sees them moving in across the Summer and Autumn. But house moves aren’t always planned, sometimes a new addition joins the family, a new job comes along, or a house you just can’t let slip through your fingers hits the market – so there’s always a steady stream of people finding their new dream home and making that move.
Yet, despite that, if you’re the one moving it can seem like a whole new (stressful) world – and it can be easy to feel like you’re not quite sure what’s going on.
If you’re planning a move in Leeds, you’ll need a good removals firm. Well we’re very proud to boast that we are in fact Leeds’ oldest removals company – having been established in the city more than 150 years ago. With that comes experience – there’s nothing we haven’t seen or had to handle, and our teams are just the cool, calm, safe pairs of hands you need to guide you through the process.
So, if you choose to move with Britannia Turnbulls, what can you expect?
The first thing is an estimator will come and visit you, to see how much you need to move. We can alternatively do this via a postal form if you prefer. This helps us to provide you with an accurate price, but it also allows us to find out if you have anything which might be difficult to move, so we can make sure we have a plan in place for moving day, bringing in additional equipment if needed.
Don’t forget we can also offer packing services. It can be stressful living around boxes for weeks, or trying to figure out how to keep your belongings safe – so why not let the experts do it? You’ll be amazed how quickly they can pack all your worldly goods, knowing instantly the most efficient and safest way to pack a box, and how to best protect your fine china.
Once your move is booked, and moving date is confirmed (don’t worry – we know these often change, talk to us about the best way to ensure you’re covered if that happens) – it’s really just a case of waiting until the big day!
With both your old home and your new one, you need to check out the parking situation – is there somewhere the van can go? Do we need a parking permit? Have you spoken to neighbours? People usually understand that a removals van is doing a job for just one day, and tend to be understanding.
In reality, once you’re packed, move day itself should go fairly smoothly – assuming the solicitors and banks have done their thing! Our teams are quick and efficient and will have the van loaded in no time. Make sure all the boxes are clearly labelled so the team knows at the other end where they should go. You may also want to consider giving them a map of the new house or putting labels on the doors so it’s clear which is the master bedroom, or the playroom.
We always recommend keeping a suitcase in your own vehicle for emergency items such as a change of clothes, toilet rolls, torches, candles, medication, tools, children’s comforters, snacks – and of course the all important kettle and mugs! You might also want to consider keeping pyjamas and bedding somewhere handy so you know there’s no searching for those when you’re all exhausted on that first night in your new home.
But here at Britannia Turnbulls, we’ll try take away as much of the stress as possible. So, if you’re planning a move in Leeds – why not give us a call?
