Designs Revealed For a New Model Village in Leeds

The words model village evoke thoughts of Sir Titus Salt’s historic and iconic Victorian village of Saltaire in Bradford which has become not only a desirable area to live but an attraction for tourists. Equally, ask any resident of Leeds what they know about Kirkstall and history will again spring to mind, with Kirkstall Abbey and its grounds being a famous landmark in the city.

But this week, as reported in the Yorkshire Post, a new model village calling upon inspiration from Sir Titus Salt has had its plans revealed on industrial land known as Kirkstall Forge. The 57-acre site situated only a few miles out of Leeds city centre ticks many boxes for home buyers and will also tick boxes for businesses with many commercial units, shops and cafes also earmarked to be included as well as a primary school and park. Work has already begun on the office units which are earmarked for opening in October of this year. Another step in the right direction for the development.

The name Kirkstall Forge will already be familiar with Leeds residents in and around the area. The development, albeit hidden away on the banks of the River Aire, is right off the A65 – a main road including bus routes into Leeds from the west of the city. The A65 also provides a direct link from Kirkstall Forge to Leeds Bradford International Airport. On top of this, a dedicated railway station was opened last year on the Leeds to Bradford line. The six minute commute into Leeds Railway Station will not only be attractive for workers in Leeds but those who need to travel south to London on regular occasions.

It is easy to see why the market in Leeds is excited for this development. Not only wasted land being redeveloped but there is the ultimate aim of delivering quality making it “one of the most desirable places to live” in Leeds and West Yorkshire. With its planned local amenities, transport links and the plans for unique and modern housing, Kirkstall Forge is certainly something to look out for.
