Spring Cleaning Before Moving Out of your House or Flat

If you are moving out of your house or flat, you no doubt have a huge list of things that you need to take care of, and it can be difficult to keep track of what needs to be done and what can wait. One thing that you certainly don’t need is to spend all that time packing and moving, only to find out you aren’t getting your deposit back because some of the condition of the apartment is not up to scratch. This article will detail some of the best ways for you to ensure your home is sparkling clean and that you get that very helpful bit of money deposited back into your account at the end of your residency/tenancy.

Odd Jobs

Remove all nails and screws from the walls – this can be quite a fiddly job but it makes the place look much tidier. Be sure to fill in the holes with putty to ensure that you are not left with any unsightly blemishes on your walls.

Dusting – everything from window sills, counter tops, mantlepieces and furniture need to be dusted in order to look as good as possible. It is quite easy to forget to do this, but by taking a small amount of time out of your day to do it, you can make quite a significant difference.

Cleaning – cleaning areas like windows, surfaces, even doorknobs, handles and light switches can make a world of difference. Don’t forget things like appliances too, especially if they are stainless steel.

Bathroom

Ensure that you remove any buildup of soap scum that accumulates over time. Bleaching the grout between tiles is recommended, too, as it brings back the as-new appearance of the surfaces.

Unblock all drains and plugholes – even if they don’t appear to be blocked it won’t do any harm to pour some drain cleaner down there.

Drawers – Make sure that you thoroughly clean the insides of drawers, removing any stray hairs on spilled beauty products that might have otherwise gone unnoticed.

Cleaning and mopping – make sure to clean sinks, toilets, baths and showers. As well as this, sweeping and mopping floors is very important, both from an aesthetic and hygienic standpoint.

Bedrooms

Take great care to dust and vacuum these rooms – the cleaner they are, the lower the risk of bedbugs is for the new owners or tenants.

Outside

Spring cleaning isn’t just for indoors, either. Mow the lawn, de-weed your garden and remove any garden furniture/accessories that you want to take with you. It can also be worth scrubbing patios and porches to get rid of any dirt.

Once you are sure your home is clean, you can then focus on packing up and leaving without having to worry about whether or not you’ll get that deposit back!
